Master of the "Isarda" Bhagavata Purana

Master of the "Isarda" Bhagavata Purana is the conventional name for an anonymous North Indian painter responsible for a celebrated illustrated manuscript of the Bhagavata Purana made around 1560 to 1565 in the Delhi-Agra region. The notname comes from Isarda, a feudatory estate connected to the Jaipur court, where the now dispersed album later surfaced. The series belongs to the early Rajput tradition and grows out of the Chaurapanchasika group of paintings, with bold color, animated figures, and lively narration.

Its folios illustrate episodes from the life of Krishna, including his play with the gopis, and are held in museums such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art and LACMA.
