Artist

Sidney Causer

Sidney Causer is a Social Realism artist. 1 work is cataloged here, principally at Victoria and Albert Museum.

Sidney Causer’s watercolors look like someone paused mid-sip of tea to watch a building fall. Most of his work shows post-war Britain, where men in rolled sleeves chip away at rubble while smoke still curls behind them. You’ll spot his spare, almost clumsy brushwork in Demolition at Chester 1942, it feels less like a picture and more like a snapshot someone grabbed with a trembling hand.

If you like the grittier side of 1940s Britain, tap his name; you’ll find whole streets that look exactly like the one he caught in paint.
