A Dutch still-life painter known only by the monogram JVR. The 1600 to 1601 canvas Still Life with Pig's Head, Trotters and Sausage piles cured meats and offal against a plain wall. The spare palette and careful light treat food as both feast and fleeting life, a common theme in early Dutch kitchens.
