This print shows Saint Cecily in a quiet moment, her head bowed over an open book. Alois Senefelder invented lithography in 1798 to cut printing costs. He drew this image right on a smooth stone slab, then rolled ink over it. The paper picked up the ink only where he’d drawn, leaving the white parts untouched. Check out Alois Senefelder (German, 1771–1834) to see more of his experiments.
