Circles of Water II is a 1907 by Anders Zorn, depicting Bathing, held at Cleveland Museum of Art.
You see a woman in a white dress standing in shallow water. The water ripples around her bare feet. Zorn painted her from memory after a quick visit to his wife’s hometown near Stockholm. He used loose brushstrokes to show light dancing on the water. See how he blends the dress and water together? That’s called sfumato. It’s a subtle trick used by Leonardo da Vinci.
Anders Leonard Zorn was born in February 1860 in Mora, Dalarna, the illegitimate son of a Bavarian brewer and a Swedish farmer's daughter; his mother died shortly after his birth, and his grandparents raised him.
