Composition de fleurs sauvages et fantaisistes en bouquets multicolores, projets de broderies de gilet, XVIIIème siècle
1750
From the collection of Palais Galliera - Musée de la Mode de la Ville de Paris
This drawing shows two folded fabric panels covered in bright floral patterns. The flowers—pink, blue, yellow, and white—fill the shapes like a garden in bloom. Tiny green leaves and stems connect them, while purple lines mark the edges of the fabric. The top of the paper has scattered sketches of single flowers and wheat stalks, almost like a scrapbook of ideas. The whole thing looks hand-drawn, with careful but simple lines. Next, check out cross-hatching to see how artists build texture with lines.
