View of Fondi is a 1501 ink by Anonymous Fabriczy, a Renaissance work, held at National Gallery of Art.
This sketch shows a distant town with lots of buildings and towers, drawn in quick, light lines. In the foreground, a rocky shore meets the water, with a few trees clinging to the hills. The whole scene is made with brown ink, layered in crisscrossed strokes to fill in shapes. The artist used a lot of small lines to build up shadows and textures—like a code for light and dark. The writing at the bottom says *"Les montielles"* and *"Via Appia & Napoli"*, hinting at a real place. Next, look up cross-hatching to see how artists like this one create depth with just lines.
