Avions reposant sur le terrain (verso) is a 1914 by Auguste Lepère, held at Cleveland Museum of Art.
This sketch shows two airplanes resting on the ground, drawn in loose, wavy lines. The planes are simple shapes with a few dark patches for details. The background is filled with quick, tangled strokes—like scribbles or wind-blown lines—covering the whole page. The artist used fast, uneven marks instead of clean outlines, making the drawing feel dynamic. It looks like they were working quickly, almost like a rough draft. Check out The Cleveland Museum of Art to see more of this sketch in person.
Louis-Auguste Lepère (30 November 1849 – 20 November 1918) was a French painter and etcher. Lepère is also considered a leader in the creative revival of wood engraving in Europe.
