Vaillants Allemands!! is a 1914 by Auguste Lepère, held at Cleveland Museum of Art.
This image shows eight black-and-white sketches of chaotic battle scenes. Soldiers, horses, and buildings are drawn in rough, jagged lines. Some sketches are loose and sketchy, while others are darker with heavy shading. The title *Vaillants Allemands!!* hints at a focus on German soldiers during a fight. The artist’s handwriting appears in the bottom left corner of one sketch. Check out The Cleveland Museum of Art to see this work in person.
Louis-Auguste Lepère (30 November 1849 – 20 November 1918) was a French painter and etcher. Lepère is also considered a leader in the creative revival of wood engraving in Europe.
