This etching shows Venice’s Grand Canal lined with old buildings. The water looks still, but faint ripples hint at movement below. You can almost hear the soft splash of a gondola’s oar. Otto Henry Bacher was an American artist who often used etching to copy famous European views. He lived in Venice for a while, so he knew its light well. Look up the National Gallery of Art, Washington to see more of his prints.
