Shepherd with Dog and Sheep is a 1806 ink by John Boyne, a Romanticism work, depicting Sleep, held at National Gallery of Art.
This lithograph shows a shepherd in a rough coat tending sheep with a shaggy dog at his heels. The pen lines are bold and scratchy, not soft or blended. The dog looks ready to work, not playful. Lithography was new then. It prints from a flat stone where ink sticks to drawn lines only. Boyne used tusche, a greasy crayon, to make his marks. If you like sharp, scratchy prints try Boyne, John.
