The Assumption with the Cherubin is a 1617 ink by Jacques Callot, a Baroque work, held at National Gallery of Art.
This black-and-white drawing shows a group of people gathered around a simple altar. Above them, a robed figure floats upward, surrounded by clouds and small winged beings. The scene looks busy but orderly, with some people kneeling and others standing. The artist used fine lines to create texture, like the folds in the robes or the feathers of the angels. This was done with a technique called etching. Look up etching to see how artists like Callot made detailed prints.
