About this work

This painting shows a big, fuzzy blob made of tiny shapes—hexagons and circles in black, pink, yellow, and white. The blob sits on a pale, almost blank background, with a few scattered dots and lines nearby. Some shapes look like they’re overlapping, while others float loosely. The artist used different textures—some parts look smooth, others rough—by mixing paint, clay, and ink. The colors pop against the light background, making the blob stand out. Next, check out Ellen Gallagher to see how she builds images from small marks.
