Untitled is a 1977 graphite by Fred Sandback, held at Museum of Modern Art.
This drawing shows two simple wire-like lines cutting through a wireframe cube. The cube is made of faint, light pencil lines, like a sketch of a 3D box. The lines are black and sharp, crossing the cube at odd angles. The artist used just a few tools—pencil and felt-tip pen—to create this. The lines feel precise but also a little floating, like they could drift away. Next, check out cross-hatching to see how artists build shapes with layers of lines.
Fred Sandback was an American minimalist conceptual-based sculptor known for his yarn sculptures, drawings, and prints. His estate is represented by David Zwirner.
