About this work

This painting looks messy on purpose. You see a tangled web of black lines and scribbles, with red and green splotches scattered around. The center has a rough shape that might be a face, but it’s hard to tell. The artist used pastel—soft, chalky sticks of color—to make the paint bleed into the paper.
