This photo shows the stage set for a famous 1900 Christmas pantomime at Drury Lane. It’s part of a lavish production of Sleeping Beauty with Dan Leno and Herbert Campbell in the leads. The Fairy Parliament set was designed by Robert Caney, packed with bright colors and elaborate details. Critics called it the best pantomime London had seen that year. The sepia photograph depicts the woodland grotto set for the Fairy Parliament in Act I, Scene 1 of the 1900 Christmas production of *The Sleeping Beauty and the Beast* at London’s Theatre Royal Drury Lane. Designed by Robert Caney for Arthur Collins’ lavish pantomime, the scene was part of a series of elaborate stage designs, including pastoral landscapes and enchanted gardens. The photograph is mounted on card bearing the photographer’s details: E. Gordon, 68 Allerton Road, Stoke Newington.
