This print shows two big-faced actors in bold makeup and costumes. The left figure has a wild black wig, a stern look, and holds a fan or scroll. His robe is dark with bright red and blue patterns. The right figure has a shaved head, a scowling face, and a white robe with swirling tattoos and green accents. Notice how the background is simple but the faces pop with thick outlines and flat colors. This style was meant to highlight the actors’ dramatic expressions. Look up actor next to see how these prints were tied to theater.
