The Passion: The Lamentation is a 1480 by Israhel van Meckenem, a Renaissance work, depicting Lamentation of Christ, held at Cleveland Museum of Art.
You see a small engraving of Jesus’s body after the cross. His head droops to the right. Mary holds his limp hand. A few figures stand in a tight half-circle. This print is one of 49 scenes van Meckenem made about Jesus’ last days. The lines are crisp but soft. He often copied other artists’ work, but here he added his own twist.
