Untitled is a 1976 oil by Joan Mitchell, a Abstract Expressionism work, held at Museum of Modern Art.
This painting is split into two big panels. The brushstrokes are thick and wild, mostly green, blue, and black. You can barely tell what it’s supposed to be—just swirls and splashes of color. Some areas look like trees, but it’s hard to say. The colors clash and mix together, making the scene feel alive and messy. The paint is layered on so thick in spots that it almost looks like it could fall off. This style is called impasto.
Joan Mitchell (February 12, 1925 – October 30, 1992) was an American artist who worked primarily in painting and printmaking, and also used pastel and made other works on paper.
