About this work

This painting is a wild mix of colors and brushstrokes. Thick layers of paint in reds, blues, yellows, and whites create a busy, almost chaotic scene. The strokes are rough and uneven, with some areas looking like they were slapped on quickly. You can barely make out shapes—maybe figures or objects—but they’re buried under all the paint. The paint is so thick in spots that it almost stands up off the canvas. This technique makes the colors pop and feel almost three-dimensional. It’s like the artist was more interested in how the paint itself looked than in making a clear picture. If you like this style, check out impasto.
