About this work

This black-and-white engraving shows a man in a suit and bow tie, mid-motion like he’s performing. He’s tossing playing cards into the air while holding a coin in one hand and a small box in the other. His face is exaggerated—big eyes, wild hair—and his legs are spread wide, almost like he’s jumping. The drawing looks hand-drawn and rough around the edges, with some smudges and uneven lines. This style was common in early prints where artists used simple tools to make many copies. If you like this, look up etching to see how artists like Posada made prints with needles and acid.
