About this work

This sketch shows a man in a big hat and coat, standing awkwardly on a rocky ledge. His arms are raised like he’s balancing or waving off something. Below him, a sheep is tangled in a net or ropes, lying on the ground. The scene looks messy and dark, with rough lines and no color. The title at the bottom is a joke about landowners forgetting where they set traps. Daumier often used humor to point out flaws in society. Next, look up lithography to see how this sketch was made.
