Untitled is a 1990 ink by Mel Bochner, held at Museum of Modern Art.
This piece shows two horizontal rows of handwritten numbers from 0 to 9, scribbled in blue ink. The numbers repeat in a messy, uneven line, with some digits overlapping or smudged. The paper is mostly blank, except for a faint yellowish stain in the top right corner and a small brownish mark near the bottom right. The artist signed it in the corner with a tiny, almost hidden script. The numbers feel random but also deliberate, like a puzzle or a game with rules we’re not seeing.
