Marin Cureau de la Chambre is a 1656 ink by Robert Nanteuil, a Baroque work, depicting Physician, held at National Gallery of Art.
This engraving shows a man in a dark coat and white ruff, facing left. His face is shaded by fine lines that catch the light on his forehead and cheekbone. The artist used tiny crossing strokes to build up the shadows and details. This style of printmaking was new in the 1600s. It let artists copy paintings fast and sell them cheap. Robert Nanteuil made over 300 of these portraits. Look up Nanteuil, Robert to see more.
