Poles in the battle against the Swedes is a 1650 oil by Philips Wouwerman, a Dutch Golden Age work, depicting Battle, held at National Gallery of Armenia.
This painting depicts a chaotic battle scene, with a group of horsemen in the center, some of whom are armed with swords and spears. The horses are in various poses, with some rearing up on their hind legs. In the background, there are several other figures on horseback, as well as some on foot. The sky above is cloudy and dark, with a sense of turmoil and energy emanating from the scene. The artist's use of chiaroscuro creates a sense of depth and drama, with the light sources coming from the left side of the painting. The brushstrokes are bold and expressive, adding to the overall sense of movement and tension. To learn more about the techniques used in this painting, look into the art of chiaroscuro.
