Untitled is a 1942 ink by Richard Mortensen, held at Museum of Modern Art.
This drawing is all lines and shapes on a light background. You see tangled, wavy lines that look like they’re moving but don’t form clear objects. Some parts resemble birds or fish, but they’re stretched and broken up. The ink is thin in spots, making the paper show through. The artist used lots of small dots and crisscrossing lines to fill in shapes. It feels busy but also loose, like scribbles that somehow add up to something. Try looking up cross-hatching to see how artists build texture with lines.
Richard Mortensen (1910–1993) was a Danish artist, born in Ejby.
