Arabians and Turkoman Horse the property of Sir J. C - - with Persians is a 1833 watercolor by Godfrey Thomas Vigne, a Orientalism work, depicting Hunting, held at Victoria and Albert Museum.
This painting shows two men riding horses across a dry, open landscape. One horse is brown, the other white with a brown saddle blanket. Both riders wear colorful uniforms—red jackets and tall hats—and hold reins. In the foreground, three dogs lie or run on the ground, while a mountain range stretches out in the background. The artist focused on the details of the horses and riders, especially their saddles and clothing. The scene looks like a moment from a hunt, with the dogs ready to chase. This watercolour drawing by Godfrey Thomas Vigne depicts Arabians and Turkoman horses alongside Persians, created in 1833 during Vigne’s stay with Sir John Campbell, the British envoy in Tehran. The work is part of a series associated with Vigne’s travels, documented in his 1839 article for the *Journal of the Royal Geographical Society* and his 1842 publication *Travels in Kashmir*. Acquired in 1971 from the artist’s great-nephew, Henry D'Olier Vigne, it is held alongside a broader collection of related works.
