Gerret Willemsz Heda, a Dutch still life painter, was the son of Willem Claesz. Heda, a leading exponent of the Dutch monochrome breakfast piece. Trained in his father's workshop, Gerret produced fruit still lifes and vanitas paintings with a restrained palette and reflective surfaces. His work is characterized by harder contours and less subtle modulation of light than his father's.
Gerret Willemsz Heda's work continues to be recognized as an important part of Dutch still life painting tradition.
