Museum of Art of the Parliament of São Paulo

The Museum of Art of the Parliament of São Paulo (Portuguese: Museu de Arte do Parlamento de São Paulo) is a contemporary art museum located in São Paulo, Brazil. It is housed within the Palácio 9 de Julho, which serves as the seat of the Legislative Assembly of the State of São Paulo. Situated in the southern part of the city directly opposite Ibirapuera Park, the institution functions as a significant site for the diffusion of art and culture within the legislative building.

Established in 2002, the museum is managed by the Department of Artistic Heritage of the Legislative Assembly. The institution originated from a practice where the parliament regularly organized art exhibitions, and participating artists would subsequently donate one or more of their exhibited works to the assembly. From its inception until 2012, the museum was coordinated by Emanuel von Lauenstein Massarani, who concurrently served as the superintendent of Cultural Heritage of the Legislative Assembly and president of the Institute for the Recovery of Historical Heritage in the State of São Paulo.

The museum is dedicated to exploring Brazilian contemporary art across various media, collecting paintings, sculptures, prints, ceramics, and photographs. By 2012, the collection had grown to over 1,200 works. The holdings include the sculptures of the Museum of Outdoor Sculpture (Museu da Escultura ao Ar Livre), which are installed in the parliament gardens. Inside the building, artworks are distributed across the various rooms and floors of the parliament, arranged according to museological criteria of theme, style, and genre.

The collection features works by several Brazilian and international artists. Among the represented creators are Francisco Rebolo, Romero Britto, Gustavo Rosa, Marcos Garrot, Denise Barros, Ricardo Augusto, Carlos Araújo, Joseph Pace, Katsunori Nishio, Auro Okamura, and Sergio Valle Duarte.

The museum is integrated into the Palácio 9 de Julho, the building that houses the Legislative Assembly of São Paulo. The palace is located in the southern zone of São Paulo, positioned directly across from Ibirapuera Park. The integration of the museum into the legislative building transforms the governmental site into a cultural destination, with artworks displayed throughout the interior rooms and outdoor sculptures situated in the surrounding parliamentary grounds.

The museum is located within the Legislative Assembly of São Paulo complex in the southern part of the city. It operates under the authority of the Department of Artistic Heritage of the Legislative Assembly. Its primary role is to promote the Parliament Art Collection and the outdoor sculpture museum, transforming the legislative palace into an important venue for cultural dissemination in São Paulo.
