Pier Alessandro Garda Civic Museum

The Pier Alessandro Garda Civic Museum, known in Italian as the Museo Civico Pier Alessandro Garda, is a municipal museum in Ivrea, Piedmont, Italy. Inaugurated on 31 January 2014 after more than three decades of inactivity, it houses three principal collections spanning archaeology, Oriental art, and European painting. The institution takes its name from Pier Alessandro Garda, a figure whose personal collection of Japanese art formed the core of the museum's Oriental holdings.

The museum opened on 31 January 2014, ending a period of more than thirty years during which the institution had been inactive. The reopening represented a significant cultural investment by the city of Ivrea in preserving and displaying its accumulated heritage. In 2024, the museum marked the tenth anniversary of this reopening with an exhibition focused on ceramic art drawn across its various collections, an event described as the first decennial since the museum's renewal.

The museum's holdings are organized into three main collections. The Archaeological Collection contains materials from Ivrea and its surrounding territory, covering a chronological span from the Neolithic Age through the Late Middle Ages. The Oriental Art Collection combines Pier Alessandro Garda's personal collection of Japanese works, assembled during the era of Japonisme, with objects from the collection of Count Francesco Baldassarre Perrone from Palazzo Giusiana, which includes Chinese and other Asian materials. The Croff Collection comprises European paintings that entered the city's holdings through a bequest from Lucia Guelpa.

The Oriental Art Collection numbers more than 500 works from Japan, reflecting the particular interest in Japanese art during the Japonisme period. The Croff Collection includes paintings by a range of Italian and European artists: Giovanni del Biondo, Neri di Bicci, Bergognone, the Carracci, Giuseppe Palizzi, Filadelfo Simi, Pietro Annigoni, Xavier Bueno, Antonio Bueno, and Giorgio de Chirico. The archaeological holdings provide material evidence of human settlement in the Ivrea area from prehistory through the medieval period.
