Founded in 1995 by Luigino Rossi, founder of the luxury shoe company Rossimoda, the museum has evolved from a corporate archive into one of Italy's few dedicated shoe museums, documenting both the business history of Rossimoda and the broader footwear traditions of the Riviera del Brenta region. Its holdings encompass more than 1,500 models of luxury women's shoes produced in collaboration with leading international fashion houses, alongside art works from Rossi's private collection.

The museum was established in 1995 under the will of Luigino Rossi, founder of Rossimoda, a manufacturer of luxury women's footwear. Its original purpose was to document the entrepreneurial history of the company. Over time, however, it expanded its scope to encompass the documentation of traditional footwear from the Riviera del Brenta, ancient Venetian footwear traditions, and shoes from other geographic origins. The upper floor presents products from European and Mediterranean designers, including Emilio Pucci, Yves Saint Laurent, Givenchy, Dior, Roger Vivier, Fendi, Christian Lacroix, Céline, and Kenzo, with these designers accorded more space due to the longevity of their collaborations with the company. Other houses represented include Ungaro, Calvin Klein, and additional international labels.
