Stray Kat Gallery is a contemporary art gallery in New York City owned and directed by Kat Dahl, Zane Fix, and Stella Michaels. Founded with the premise that exceptional contemporary artists could be found selling works in unconventional settings throughout the city, from Meatpacking District alleyways to mobile pop-ups in Upper Manhattan parks, the gallery has distinguished itself through rapid physical expansion and a programming model that blends visual art with live events. The gallery's origins trace to 2011, when private viewings were made available to selected collectors around the globe. In May 2012, Stray Kat Gallery debuted publicly at 88 Tenth Avenue, becoming the only art gallery operating within New York's Chelsea Market and situating itself directly beneath the High Line. The success of its inaugural exhibition secured a year-long run in that 4,000-square-foot location. On November 21, 2013, the gallery relocated to an abandoned auto detailing garage in the Meatpacking District, again beneath the High Line, this time within the MILK Building. This move positioned Stray Kat as what it described as pioneers of the district. In June 2014, the gallery expanded further, taking an 8,000-square-foot space at 450 West 14th Street. An exclusive article with Interview magazine followed on July 22, 2014, and on September 18, 2014, the gallery held a private launch party for publisher Lee Herandez. By late 2016, the gallery had opened another location at 508 West 26th Street, with an exhibition titled 2 Sides of the Coin opening on December 8, 2016, running through January 12, 2017. The gallery's spring 2017 exhibition, SUPERFREAK, held in April, was billed as its last Chelsea gallery exhibition. A subsequent exhibition opened in fall 2017 at 224 Mulberry Street in the Lolita space, continuing through winter 2018. The gallery also pursued international exposure for its artists beginning in early 2016 and 2017, with Stella Michaels touring Canada and Zane Fix exhibiting in Asia. A Forbes interview published in mid-December 2016 further raised its profile.

Her piece Shooting Star at Midnight, executed in enamel and acrylic on canvas in 2014, exemplifies her minimalistic yet warm approach, featuring an abstract city skyline on a blue background with a single red circle. Fix works in a Japanese pop art-influenced style, employing vibrant colors and drawing inspiration from pop culture figures including Audrey Hepburn, Marilyn Monroe, and David Bowie. His modern twist on Andy Warhol-like pop art is characterized by sketches with pops of color. The gallery's 2016-2017 exhibition 2 Sides of the Coin and its 2017 exhibition SUPERFREAK, featuring selected works from ten artists worldwide, demonstrated its continued commitment to presenting both its signature artists and broader international selections.

Stray Kat Gallery's physical spaces have consistently occupied industrial or repurposed buildings in Manhattan, contributing to an aesthetic that reviewers have described as somewhat industrial by nature. The Meatpacking District location featured concrete floors and exposed pipe ceilings, creating a minimalist setting for display. At that space, Japanese umbrellas were hung from the ceiling to complement the Japanese ambiance of Zane Fix's work. The gallery's successive locations beneath or near the High Line, in the Chelsea Market, the MILK Building, and on West 14th Street, placed it at the center of one of New York's most dramatically redeveloped corridors, where former industrial and commercial buildings were converted to cultural and retail uses during the 2010s.
