Founding & history
The Tartu Art House structure was erected in 1959. Over the subsequent decades, the exhibition facilities expanded to accommodate growing programming needs. The Small Gallery was opened in 2002, followed by the opening of the Monumental Gallery in 2008, bringing the venue to its modern configuration of three dedicated exhibition spaces.

As an active exhibition venue managed by the Tartu Artists' Union, the Art House focuses on a rotating program rather than a permanent collection. The 1959 building is situated at the corner of Vanemuise Street (Vanemuise tanav) and Akadeemia Street (Akadeemia tanav) in Tartu. The Big Gallery provides 172 square meters of space, while both the Small Gallery and the Monumental Gallery offer 57 square meters each.
