Tel Aviv Cinematheque

The Tel Aviv Cinematheque, also known as the Doron Cinema Center, is a cinematheque and film archive located at HaArba'a Street 5 in Tel Aviv, Israel. Opened on 12 May 1973, it functions as both a cultural venue and an archival institution dedicated to the preservation and presentation of cinema. The Cinematheque matters within Israeli cultural life as a hub for film exhibition, hosting festivals, screening Israeli and international works, and maintaining an active publishing program through its film journal. Its role expanded significantly with the 2011 opening of the adjacent Israel Cinema Center, which tripled its operational space.

The Tel Aviv Cinematheque was established and opened on 12 May 1973. For its first sixteen years, it operated from its original premises until the current building, designed by Israeli architect Salo Hershman, opened in 1989. A major expansion occurred in September 2011 with the opening of the Israel Cinema Center adjacent to the original cinematheque. This new wing was three times the size of the existing space and, like the original building, was designed by Salo Hershman. The addition brought three new theaters, offices, a library, and a restaurant to the complex.
