Viborg Kunsthal is a leading contemporary art venue located at Søndersø in Viborg, Central Denmark. As a kunsthal without a permanent collection, Viborg Kunsthal's notable works consist of significant temporary exhibitions and site-specific commissions. Past presentations have included works by internationally recognized figures such as Henrik Vibskov, Andreas Emenius, Per Arnoldi, and Kent Klich. The institution has also hosted Danish artist HuskMitNavn for a major 2026 exhibition spanning six gallery rooms, combining borrowed works from private collections with new creations made specifically for the venue. German-Filipino artist Jasmin Werner presented 'Scarecrow Tactics,' a total installation examining migration, borders, and mechanisms of movement and deterrence. Danish-Icelandic collective SUPERFLEX delivered work addressing the 17 Sustainable Development Goals through virtual reality, marking their first use of the medium. Brazilian artist Héctor Zamora's 'Ordem e Progresso' featured a fishing boat destroyed by hired migrants during a performance in Portugal, addressing industrial fishing's damage to local industries and the European migrant crisis. Swedish photographer Helene Schmitz exhibited 'Sunken Gardens,' while Danish artists Marit Roland, Signe Guttormsen, Andrea Ostermeyer, Søren Sejr, and Carl Emil Jacobsen have also presented notable exhibitions.

Viborg Kunsthal occupies the historic Brændigården, a four-wing complex whose oldest section dates to 1734. The Saxon architect and builder Johann Gottfried Hödrich erected the main building in a single construction phase, with an additional floor added in the 19th century. The structure has served multiple functions over its long history: in the 19th century it functioned as a spirits distillery, and other documented uses include an alcohol ambulatory, a reception facility for mental health care patients, and private housing. The building has been protected since 1950. The surrounding garden features a prominent 500 square meter mosaic decoration by Danish artist Mette Winckelmann, inaugurated in November 2013. Comprising more than 100 patterns, the mosaic references the site's deep history, which extends to the Middle Ages. Archaeological findings suggest that Knud the Great, who came from England to be crowned King of Denmark in Viborg, may have lived at this location. The historic building's atmospheric character makes it particularly suited for site-specific artworks created for the exhibition spaces.

Viborg Kunsthal is located at Riddergade 8 in central Viborg, by the lakes. The venue is open Tuesday through Friday from 11:00 to 17:00, with extended hours until 20:00 on Thursday, and from 11:00 to 17:00 on weekends. It is closed on Mondays, on 24-26 December, 31 December, and 1 January. Public holiday hours are 11:00 to 17:00. All parking at the Kunsthal is free and without time limit. The institution is municipally owned and operated as part of Viborg's cultural infrastructure.
