Sheikh Taju
Kota State
Sheikh Taju is a Kota State Mughal Painting artist. 1 work is cataloged here, principally at Metropolitan Museum of Art.
Sheikh Taju kept his brushes in a clay pot on the windowsill of a house that overlooked the river, where the afternoon light turned the ink on his paper into something alive. He painted the same tangled banyan tree every year, its roots twisting like veins across the page, until it felt less like a tree and more like a map of the world he couldn’t draw. Look up his Untitled from 1780, it’s a quiet riot of greens and browns, the kind of thing you’d miss if you scrolled past too fast.
