Pandit Seu

Pandit Seu was an Indian painter of the Pahari tradition, active in the hill state of Guler in the Punjab Hills during the late seventeenth and early eighteenth centuries. He headed one of the most influential family workshops of Pahari painting and was the father of Manaku and Nainsukh, two of the greatest masters of the school. Working in the courtly idiom of the hill states, his family absorbed elements of Mughal painting, and the refined Guler-Kangra style that emerged around 1730 to 1740 is closely associated with Seu and his sons. He is thought to have died around the middle of the eighteenth century.
