Federico Jimenez Nicanor was a Spanish painter and illustrator of the later nineteenth century. He trained at the Escuela de Bellas Artes de San Fernando in Madrid under Francisco Jover and worked mainly in still life and flower painting. He is best known, however, for the history painting El Pilar no se rinde, which depicts the people of Zaragoza defying French demands to surrender during the sieges of the city in the Peninsular War.

The picture won a second-class medal at the Aragonese Exhibition of 1885 to 1886 and was acquired by the Spanish State in 1887.
