S. Knight never signed a print, but you can spot their work by the way they turned every hair on a horse’s mane into a tiny question mark. They printed farm animals for London pub signs, but the real trick was selling those same plates to genteel collectors who hung them in velvet frames. Look for H Beard Print Collection, a stack of loose sheets sold by the pound in 1824; pick one at random and the horse will wink back.
