Artist
Denis Dighton
Denis Dighton is a British Romanticism artist. 1 work is cataloged here, principally at Victoria and Albert Museum.
Denis Dighton carried a tiny pocket spyglass in his coat just to study the angles of uniforms. He’d been an army man himself before turning artist, so he knew how soldiers stood when tired, how horses leaned into the wind. His watercolors feel like a general’s quick sketch: Cavalry and Infantry contesting a stream shows mud flicked up by hooves and sweat on the riders’ necks, no grand pose, just the mess of a real skirmish.
Find the work and look for the soldier whose coat is still half-buttoned; it’ll tell you everything about haste.
