Artist
Bulgarian 19th Century

1800–1899
Bulgarian 19th Century was a Romanticism artist. 1 work is cataloged here, principally at National Gallery of Art.
This guy painted saints so often his brush practically lived in a church. He never signed his work, too busy copying old icons to care about credit, but the National Gallery kept one anyway, a stiff-backed Saint Constantine and Saint Elena staring like they’ve just been told bad news. Why he’s here: swipe to see Saint Constantine and Saint Elena and squint at the gold halos; you’ll spot the tiny crack in the paint that gives him away.
