Hugo Kołłątaj is an Academic Art artist. 129 works are cataloged here, principally at "Dimitrie Gusti" National Village Museum.

This Polish folk painter worked in the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries, creating religious scenes with bold colors and simple shapes. In “Birth of the Mother of God,” he places Saints Joachim and Anne beside the infant Mary’s cradle, dressed in green, red, and blue robes under a gray-blue sky framed by a walled city. Look for the gold halos, the high bed with one leg, and three figures bringing gifts in the background.

Tap the print “Samson Drinking from the Jawbone” to see how the same direct style turns a biblical story into a stark, graphic scene.
