Master of Santa Coloma de Queralt

Master of Santa Coloma de Queralt is a Byzantine icon painting artist. 1 work is cataloged here, principally at Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya.

This anonymous painter from the 1300s made wooden altarpieces during the Gothic era, a time when religious scenes crowded gold backgrounds and halos glowed. Their Altarpiece of the Saints John (1356) shows carved figures in stiff robes, one saint holding a book, another with a lamb, typical of the period’s stiff, symbolic style. The work’s flat colors and stacked composition feel like a storybook come to life.
