Knud Erik Larsen (1865-1922) was a Danish painter born at Vinderod near Frederiksvaerk. He trained at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, graduating in 1889, and first exhibited at the Charlottenborg Spring Exhibition in 1887. Larsen painted landscapes and genre subjects in a conservative, accessible manner, and was especially noted for his views of the Jutland countryside.
His colouring drew on the example of older Danish painters such as Vilhelm Kyhn. He won several honours, including the Eckersberg Medal in 1898 and the Thorvaldsen Medal in 1901, and served on the council of the Royal Academy until his death in Copenhagen.
