Margaretha Haverman was a Dutch Rococo painting painter. 2 works are cataloged here, principally at Statens Museum for Kunst, most of them oil paintings. Margaretha Haverman was born in Breda.
Margaretha Haverman was baptized in Breda on 28 October 1693, the daughter of Daniël Haverman, a captain in the Danish army who later settled in Amsterdam as director of a boys' school. In Amsterdam she entered the studio of Jan van Huysum, becoming his only known pupil, a distinction that later embarrassed the notoriously secretive master when her skill began to attract buyers. On 25 July 1721 she married the architect Jacques de Mondoteguy and moved with him to Paris.
In January 1722 she was admitted to the Académie royale de peinture et de sculpture, but in 1723 the Academy expelled her amid accusations that her reception piece had been painted by Van Huysum. Today only two signed paintings are firmly attributed to her: A Vase of Flowers (1716), an oil on wood panel now at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and a second flower piece in the Statens Museum for Kunst in Copenhagen. She died after 1739.
