His “Old country cottage on the water” shows a single-story house with whitewashed walls and a low, thatched roof, its back door opening straight onto a narrow lane that runs parallel to the water. In “Old Cottage on the Water,” the same quiet mood returns, with a little wooden footbridge leading across the canal to a garden gate.
