Elisabeth Iosetta Hoopstad

Kingdom of the Netherlands

Elisabeth Iosetta Hoopstad is a Kingdom of the Netherlands Biedermeier artist. 2 works are cataloged here, principally at collection Adriaan van der Hoop.

From Flanders in the early 1800s comes Elisabeth Iosetta Hoopstad’s quiet corner of still life. She painted ordinary fruits and glassware in soft light, anchored by muted backgrounds. In 1842 she set a bunch of grapes beside a pewter jug in her Still life, letting the reflections tell the story. Look closer: the grapes are slightly dusted, the jug’s rim catches the glow of a nearby window. Slide over to her Still life to see how the handles and stems carry the quiet weight of the everyday.
