Romanian painter Ioan Sima left behind a small body of work, portraits and still lifes in bright, flat colors that feel both direct and a little off-kilter. His 1930s paintings like Lelea Nișcă and Bluza roșie swap soft shadows for sharp, almost graphic outlines. The self-portrait print Autoportret keeps the same flat light, trapping the face in a single plane.
