Benjamin de Rolland was a French painter who lived from 1773 to 1855. He worked as an artist, court painter, and portraitist during his lifetime. His artistic training took place under the guidance of the renowned painter Jacques-Louis David. Later in his career, de Rolland passed on his knowledge by teaching the artist Ernest Hébert. His professional life was defined by these roles within the French art world. He remained active in these capacities throughout the first half of the nineteenth century. His legacy includes both his own work and his influence on the next generation of painters.
