Yongxing (1752-1823), known by his title Prince Cheng, was a Manchu prince of the Qing dynasty and the eleventh son of the Qianlong Emperor. Within the imperial court he was celebrated above all as a calligrapher, and he is counted among the most admired masters of brush writing of the Qianlong and Jiaqing eras. Trained in the classical models of earlier Chinese calligraphy, he was known for a disciplined, elegant hand in regular and running scripts.
As a high-ranking member of the Aisin Gioro house, his work belongs to the refined scholar-official culture cultivated at the Qing court.
